E Ōpū Ali'i
At the heart of the McClellan Family is “E Ōpū Ali'i’” or “the heart of a chief.” TMG is dedicated to community service, supporting non-profits, investing in keiki, and preserving Hawai'i's unique cultural heritage. TMG's projects embody the principles of leadership that inspire future generations to actualize their goals and contribute to making our home a better place to live.
The Repatriation of Historic Hawaiian Artifacts
Hawai'i has lost many artifacts of great historical significance. Repatriating these pieces remains a longstanding issue for the Native Hawaiian community. An example of these pieces is the Royal Orders awarded by the Hawaiian monarch to individuals for their distinguished service and merit rendered to the state or the sovereign.
The McClellan family has found and acquired two Royal Orders of Kalakaua and returned them to Hawai'i. The family is sharing these two priceless pieces with the Washington Place Foundation so that they can be displayed to the public. These pieces will not only invite more to learn about Hawai'i's history but also inspire future generations to return other historical artifacts to their ancestral home.
Ireland - Hawai'i Student Exchange
Partnering with HawaiiKidsCAN and Co-operation Ireland, this exchange program brings delegations of youth leaders from Hawai'i and Ireland together -- recognizing the parallels as we are both island communities that face the impacts of climate change, complex historical tensions, and have a need for greater educational and economic opportunities for our keiki.
In 2023, a delegation of students and educators from both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland visited Hawai'i for the first time to learn about our history and culture and share their experiences and perspectives with us. Even though the delegation came from a world away, they found kindred spirits, and, in 2024, Hawai'i sent its first delegation to Ireland. As our keiki learn from these interactions, they too learn what Hawai'i has to offer to the world -- our values, our stories, and our visions.
TMG is looking forward to not only continuing this partnership but expanding upon it to inspire the next generation of leaders, allowing them to broaden their horizons and make their impact on the world.
